The European Kyudo Seminars
The European Kyudo Seminars has been held by the member nations of the
European Kyudo Federation since its inception in 1980. The United
Kingdom hosted the event in 1983 and in 1996 and 1997. Since the early
days of this event the attendance to the seminars has increased in
numbers to around 300 participants for the 14 day event from the 15
member countries.
As a part of traditional Japanese culture, the European Kyudo Seminars,
acts as both an educational and cultural event. Participants not only
learn the practical aspect of practice but also about the cultural
background to the training.
The European Kyudo Seminars at Loughborough
Kyudo requires a designated area for practice. The distance from the
shooting area to the targets is 28 meters which is traditionally
performed in a customised building (kyudojo) usually in a parkland
settings. For large events such as the European Kyudo Seminars, a
special installation has to be arranged within a sports hall, and for
this reason, Loughborough University was an obvious choice. As the
leading university for sports science in the UK it has the size of
facilities that are required together with the advantage of campus
accommodation for participants.
The United Kingdom Kyudo Association is delighted to use the facilities
at Loughborough and to host this prestigious event.
